Waffle without plate

The gofri or waffles without plate are an original version of the pods typical of Northern Europe. Try them too!

The gofri, as they call them in Piedmont, gaufre or waffles as they call them in France and Northern Europe, are delicious crispy pods in inside that cook on special cast iron plates. They can be enjoyed alone or, as I like, stuffed with creams or jams.

Today we will see how to prepare waffles without plate, that is, using a simple steak. The important thing is to grease the surface first and then distribute the batter evenly.

Plateless Waffle: The Easy and Gourmet Recipe

The dough of the traditional recipe of the gofri was composed only of flour, water and yeast; in fact they were often prepared as bread substitutes and stuffed with cheese and ham. We will see together my sweet version, whose rich batter also contains butter, eggs, sugar and milk.

For the filling I chose the jam of berries, adding some whole forest fruit and white chocolate. If you prefer a version with cream, I recommend instead of combining hazelnut cream, a few slices of banana and a bit of hazelnut grain. In short, super greedy and inviting waffles. But for the filling, space for personal tastes!

How about getting to work right away? In a short time our waffles without plate will be ready to enjoy for a delicious breakfast or a delicious snack and different from the usual. You’ll see, the kids are going crazy!

Total Time 23 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 80 g butter melted down
  • 2 Eggs
  • 60 g sugar + q.b. for filling
  • 1 small bag vanyllina
  • 190 ml Milk
  • 280 g flour 00
  • 8 g yeast for desserts
  • berries q.b. for filling
  • white chocolate q.b. for filling

Method

  1. Let’s start by preparing the batter: let the butter melt without heating it too much. Meanwhile in a bowl we break the eggs, add the sugar and beat with a fork.
  2. Now add the melted butter, vanillin and mix. We also add the milk flush, the flour a little at a time and the yeast. We mix well until we get a smooth batter and without lumps.
  3. We wash the plate with a little butter and let it heat. If you have a rectangular or flower-shaped poundry, use it as well.
When the plate is almost hot, we pour a batter ladle in the center and move the plate so that it distributes evenly. Cook the gofri on both sides for about 4 minutes to the side or at least until it will easily detach from the plate. We proceed to the end of the batter.
  4. And now let's make them as we prefer! I chose to combine Nutella and hazelnut grains, Nutella and banana and finally berries jam.
